Check out our top veggie-friendly recommendations!
Here at Tofu Cute over half the team are vegetarian,
so we are always on the lookout for tasty Japanese snacks we can eat.

It can sometimes be a little tricky trying to find suitable snacks so we have made them easier to find on our website, click here to find a list of veggie snacks! I’ve been a veggie for 35 years and I always remember finding the candy aisle very disappointing. I have a feisty sweet tooth so I’m always on the look out for new snacks, and I‘ve decided to share some of my favourite snacks here at Tofu Cute with you;
Pocky

Pocky is a pretty safe option if you are looking for a delicious snack, I haven’t seen very many that weren’t veggie friendly. Glico Pocky - Lion Banana Pudding is one of our more unique flavours, the stick itself is pretty crunchy, it has a caramelly pudding flavour coating with banana flavoured cookie pieces, as a bonus it has super cute packaging!

If I’m feeling very peckish Glico Japanese Pocky - Super Thin Gokuboso is what I reach for, as the title suggests each Pocky stick is super thin meaning you get around 50 in each pack! The stick is still very crisp and the chocolate is slightly darker than milk chocolate so it has a luxurious rich taste.

We recently found Glico Pocky Wholesome - Blueberry Yoghurt, I like to describe these as a breakfast Pocky, the combination of a whole wheat stick, flakes of freeze dried blueberry and a yogurt coating reminds me of a breakfast buffet at a hotel.
Chocolate

The first time I tried Glico Caplico Strawberry Shaped Chocolates was at Disney Epcot, I was then super excited that we got them here at Tofu Cute four months later. The chocolate is light and bubbly almost like an aero bar, the strawberry flavour is juicy and vibrant and mixes well with the smooth milk chocolate.

Meiji Meltykiss Premium Chocolate unfortunately only gets released in winter but after spending the last six Christmases at Tofu Cute I’ve come to count down to this time each year every year. These are probably one of the most luxurious products we’ve ever stocked, the truffles are designed to melt at the temperature of your mouth so don’t bite these and just let the delicate creamy milk chocolate cube melt away... truly spectacular!

Kit Kat - Baked Custard Pudding is also super unique, out of the packet it’s delicious, white chocolate which tastes like a caramelly custard, it comes as a mini loose set of two which is the perfect amount for a little pick me up in my opinion. What takes this snack to another level is the fact you can bake it! Pop it under the grill for two minutes and you get a golden brown sugary top which resembles crème brûlée, this transports the flavour, making it taste much more sweet and delicious.
Biscuits

Glico Collon Biscuit Roll - Otona Chocolate Mint is one of our newer snacks, we were all very excited to try them as we rarely get mint flavoured snacks, it did not disappoint. Collon is a biscuit tube which is light and flakey and has a whipped cream centre, the minty centre really packs a punch.

Pokémon Pudding Snack Box with Sticker is a really fun snack, it comes in Pokéball packaging perfect to roll over to and share with a friend. Within the box you get a pack of Pikuchu shaped pudding flavoured corn snacks which are produced by the creator of Caramel Corn, they are light and sweet and remind me of golden nugget cereal. You also get a collectable sticker!

I couldn’t talk about biscuits and not mention Lotte Koala March Biscuits - Rich Butter, I feel these biscuits are dangerously underrated. You get a pack of deliciously crunchy biscuits all featuring a different koala character and it’s filled with a rich butter creamy centre, I can’t begin to describe how morish these are, they have a fresh cool feel to them and taste almost like honey and are eaten more often that I’d like to admit!
Candy

Candy is probably the hardest snack to find and many of the gummies we stock sadly aren’t suitable for veggies but the following candy is highly recommended;

Senjaku Hello Kitty Sakura Fruit Candy probably features the cutest packaging we’ve stocked at Tofu Cute, Hello Kitty wearing a traditional kimono featuring cherry blossom and Mount Fuji in the back ground – they make the sweetest gift. The candy is cherry blossom shaped and has apple, orange and cherry flavour, they are all delicious however the cherry flavoured sweet is the real star of the show, unlike anything else we stock, it is vibrant and punchy and almost sherbety in flavour. They contain enough pieces to keep a packet in your bag for a week.

Mini mochi mandarin doesn’t look like much but the mandarin flavour is very similar to the fruit and the candy and chewy and great if you’re looking for something more like a gummy.

The Yaokin Long Roll Candy - Green Apple is slightly addictive, it is like a fruit winder and contains 60% real fruit juice although it tastes artificial in a good way, like candied apple. Not only tasty but fun also, you make have seen on our social media I challenged Bobu to see who could eat their fruit roll the quickest!

UHA Ikoma Rainbow Ramune Mini Candy – Peach is very different to other candy on this list, it has a chalky consistency which means it dissolves in your mouth, they have a bright peach flavour and the powder almost taste fizzy like ramune.

Lastly no snack recommendation list is complete without mochi and White Chocolate Mochi Rice Cakes – Strawberry has got to be one of the best flavours we stock! The mochi is pink, chewy, stretchy and dusted with powdered sugar, inside is a powdery strawberry milk cube of chocolate, it tastes just like you are drinking a strawberry milkshake and there’s 8 in a pack so perfect for sharing!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my recommendations and have some new vegetarian snacks to try or buy for a friend. <3 Don’t forget to react for your free Tomodachi Points!
