FLANart Awards 2018
A few weeks ago, we set you a huge task – to design and name your very own FLAN! Here at Tofu Cute, we’re dedicated to spreading the joy of FLANS to the world, and while we’re sold out of our classic selection of FLANs at the moment, we wanted to make sure that the love for FLANs continued – the huge amount of amazing FLANart has made sure this happened. We didn’t expect such a huge response, but at our final count we had just over one hundred unique and creative FLANart entries! Thank you!

In order to make sure that all the different FLANart was recognised for its brilliance, we’ve expanded the amount of prizes we’re giving away so that we can have a full celebration of the range of FLANart we received! We’ve made a few different categories, each with a different winner!

We've even decided to give out extra prizes - everyone in the nominee list will receive tomodachi points, whilst everyone who wins a category will receive a special AMUSE prize - the overall winner of course gets the brand new FLAN!

We'll be in touch to everyone who entered & won as soon as possible!
Most Ambitious FLAN
When we received this entry, we knew we had to come up with something special to acknowledge the effort that had gone into this entry. Whilst it’s technically not using our template, Patches & Pinny by Marievontea is an exceptionally impressive work of FLANart, and so it deserves its own special mention and prize here. Congratulations!

The design is super cute and gives the flan some adorable dungarees with a heart design. They’re also holding some super cute flowers! We love it.
Best Halloween FLAN
We knew with the date that this competition ends, we'd definitely receive some Halloween themed FLAN entries. Lots of you made some great FLANart with a Halloween vibe, so we decided to make a category to pick our favourite Halloween themed FLANS. The nominees for this category are:

Count Spoop by Elena Raßmann
Jack O’ Flan by Kiki York
Batty by Emily Cooper
Flankenstein by Vicky Theobold

All of these FLANs used colours and iconography of Halloween well, but which one did we like the best?
BEST HALLOWEEN FLAN - Count Spoop
From the early stages of the competition, Count Spoop wowed us with their cuteness. We love the way it incorporates both purple and orange with a cute little bat bow tie in the middle that really unifies the look. The white bat pattern is great and we also love the detail on the Frankentofu! We love the other spooky entries, but the simple mix of colours and details on Count Spoop is what really makes it shine. Well done, Elena Raßmann!
Best Theme
The next category is for FLANart that had a great idea behind it and executed it well. There's a cute FLAN that looks like a Fox (complete with cute paws), a FLAN that looks like gingerbread (complete with cute buttons), a FLAN that looks like delicious chocolate (complete with cute chocolate hearts) and a FLAN that's all about saving our oceans (complete with important environmental messages). These FLANs are all strong entries, but which one appealed to us the most? The nominees are:

Floxy Bun by Naomi
Ginger Bear by Nick Räder
Save our Oceans Bear by Paul
Chocobunny by Tessa Stoodly
BEST THEME - Chocobunny
We know in our hearts that we couldn't ignore the delicious look of Chocobunny. What can we say? We really love chocolate. Whilst the other entries we placed in this category are also amazing, we had to be true to ourselves. Chocolate is really good, and that's captured in the amazing piece of FLANart by Tessa Stoodley. Well done!
Best Use of Colour
With all the beautiful FLANart that we received, a few stood out because of their use of colour, which we decided to recognise in this category! These FLANarts all use colours excellently. The Nominees are:

Patchwork Bunny by Melis
Explorer by Wampastompa
Konpeito by angel-xco
Viva Flanata by Lauren Cunningham

But which one was the most colourful!?
BEST USE OF COLOUR - Explorer
Explorer is a really impressive piece of FLANart, with a huge variety of bright colours that collide and swirl around this FLAN's face and limbs. A lot of effort has gone into to making this FLANart a visual experience, and for that we commend you, wampastompa!
Best FLAN Name
One important part of the competition was the naming of the FLAN design, so we made a category for those of you who had the funniest or interesting names for your FLANS! The names that made the nominees were ones that we felt encompassed the fun spirit of FLANs, with cute puns being prioritised. All of these nominees also made great FLANs that fit well with their names! The nominees in this category are:

Bun-nana by Annie Jones
The Flan that Stole Christmas by Kiki York
Flanny Zuko by Jodie Cunningham
FLANgirl & Tofu Senpai by frostedribbon
BEST FLAN NAME - FLANgirl & Tofu-Senpai
This FLANart by Frostedribbon wins because our FLAN club loved the play on words and the story that was being told with the design. There's a lot of cute details about this FLANart that make the flan and the name work well together including the T-shirt they're wearing and the stylish glasses on Tofu-senpai. Well done!
Best Hand-Drawn Flan
This category acknowledges those of you who put pencil to paper and used traditional methods to make a cute FLANart! Whilst most of what we received was digital artwork, we received a small number of super cute hand-drawn entries including some that really spoke to the FLANclub's interests. The nominees are:

AMUSE Flan by Jamie Carruthers
Uchu by Charlotte
Docteur Le Flán by ollie_likes_mango
Pastel Stitches by Paige Welsby
BEST HAND-DRAWN FLAN - AMUSE Flan
Yes, it was impossible for us to ignore the two adorable FLANartworks by Jamie Carruthers, including the astonishingly cute AMUSE FLAN, which features all different kinds of our favourite AMUSE characters like Mameshiba, Kotoritai, Loppy and more! We wish this was real so we could own it. Congratulations!
BEST FLAN
If the Academy Awards has 'best picture' as its coveted prize, then 'Best Flan' is the most valuable prize that the FLAN awards can give away! This is the big one, the grand prize winner. The FLANclub spent a long time selecting the nominees and winners out of the many FLANarts that were available, taking into account all kinds of different factors including many aspects from the above categories such as theme, use of colour, technical skill, cuteness, humour and everything else. Only the four that we thought had all of these things made it to our top four, but there can only be one winner...

The nominees are:
Aquaflan by Jodie Cunningham
Origami Bear by Imly
Ramune by Crossingfate
Flanpacasso by Sweetieflossx

BEST FLAN - Aquaflan
The winner has been chosen - Aquaflan by Jodie Cunningham is one of the best FLANarts we saw amongst the entries - it has a great theme, excellent use of colours, a great name and it's super cute! Jodie Cunningham submitted several other great FLANS of an excellent quality, but the FLANclub decided that this was our favourite amongst those. Well done, Jodie, you win the grand prize - the brand new FLAN!

To everyone else who made the nominees of this category or another, well done and thank you for entering your FLANarts. It was a tough call to narrow down a hundred great entries, but we think we've highlighted some of the best. As soon as we can, we'll have a behind-the-scenes FLANart video on our YouTube Channel, showing our judging process and getting a closer look at the new FLAN! Thanks for joining us for the first annual FLAN awards, and have a FLANtastic day!
