It may (not) have escaped your attention that the Tofu Cute Shop has recently been stocked with lots of exciting new goodies! Amongst them, a lot of new snacks have been added, and I’ve been lucky enough to try a lot of them. There’s a lot of new options to consider, though, so I thought I should do my due diligence and help you all out by giving you some quick reviews of all of my favourite new snacks from the last month or so!
I’m a big fan of the character Kirby. If you’re not familiar, they’re one of Nintendo’s more beloved game mascots - a cute pink blob that has a liking for food, his friends and saving the galaxy from peril. They have incredibly good vibes, so I was happy to see them pop up in the theming of this new snack.
If you like gumballs in general, there’s no doubt in my mind that you’ll like these ones. They have the perfect texture to them as you chew, and they’re rich with a variety of fruit and soda flavours. It’s also got an interesting gimmick that suggests combining the flavours to make new ones, which seems to have been a popular trend in Japanese snacks as of late.
Whilst I don’t think all of the combinations listed on the back are necessarily accurate (apparently combining the soda and apple flavour will give you… champagne?), many of them combine into something pretty tasty. The flavours also stand alone pretty well, and in terms of gum, last quite a long time. It’s a solid snack made even better by its excellent theming. I give it a 7/10!

I’ve seen other Japanese brands use the roman letter ‘W’ as a unique way of expressing the term ‘double’ before, which is exactly what this new puchitto pull apart candy is doing to indicate that there is DOUBLE the usual flavours. It’s a crossover of soda and energy drink flavours, which is pretty exciting.
The style of the candy is very similar to most of the other types of Puchitto pull-apart candy: soft textured candy that can be split into smaller segments. The soda flavour is pretty much what you’d expect and has that classic ‘ramune’ taste, but the energy drink flavour I think is where this particular snack really shines: it’s zesty and tangy, with a flavour that is reminiscent of many classic energy drinks. They did a good job with this one, and I liked it a lot - I give it an 8/10.

Look, all you need to know about LOOK chocolate is that it’s always good. I recall last year getting to try the autumn chestnut flavour and thinking that one was pretty good, so I was quite excited for this summer mint-choc-chip ice cream variant. Mint choc is my favourite ice cream flavour!
I’m happy to say it doesn’t disappoint. Like other versions of the LOOK chocolate, it arrives in a small tray with all of the pieces in the bar already individually segmented. It’s split between two slightly different flavours: one more minty, and one more creamy. Both of these flavours are what I would describe as ‘certified bangers’, meaning they’re excellent. It’s soft, creamy and has a nice mint flavour that isn’t too overpowering. If you’ve ever enjoyed mint choc ice cream, I’d highly recommend this. It gets a well-deserved 10/10.

The Taiyaki Airy Wafer snack is already pretty highly regarded amongst our customers. It seems like every time we re-stock these, they sell incredibly fast, and people often tell us these are their favourite in even just the standard chocolate or strawberry flavours. There’s plenty of reasons for that, too: these snacks are incredibly satisfying, with a crispy wafer shell that hides a delicious bubbly chocolate centre.
This brand new flavour takes it one step further, containing a soft ‘cream soda’ bubbly chocolate filling beneath a green wafer. I was surprised by how ‘fizzy’ this new flavour tasted, to the extent that I was worried it was a little too much at first. But those worries subsided, and I have to say that this is one impressive snack in the way it emulates the ‘cream soda’ flavour experience. I’ll give this one an 8/10. |

Despite being an enjoyer of both lemonade and chocolate, I would never normally think to mix them. It’s a good thing that Morinaga are the ones doing the snack science that people like me aren’t brave enough to do, because this is actually an incredibly good combo, especially in this crunchy ‘twig’ form. This box contains lots of individually sealed sets of four twigs, each of which has a crispy centre covered with a zesty lemony chocolate. It’s a pretty unique taste and I was surprised by how much I found myself wanting more. I think I’d give it a 7.5/10!

Not to be confused with the Nata De Coco drinks that we have available, the Nata De Coco Imitation Gummy is a gummy that has the texture of ‘nata de coco’, which is a type of coconut jelly. This particular gummy is - through some kind of dark magic - textured exactly like ‘nata de coco’. If you’ve never tried ‘nata de coco’ then you can definitely get a fraction of that experience from this gummy sweet, but with the added deliciousness of sweet peach flavour! The texture and this flavour go together exceptionally well, so if you’re curious and enjoy peaches, then it’s well worth a try. This snack gets an 8 out of 10!

If you thought the last snack recreating the texture of coconut jelly was odd, then this next snack will utterly confuse you. These Mozzarella Texture Soft Grape Gummy packs are (somehow) exactly what they say on the tin, offering you a grape-flavoured gummy taste in the texture of... stringy mozzarella cheese. I was obviously immediately intrigued by this premise, and sceptical about if they would actually deliver on such a bizarre concept. I’m happy to report that these gummies DO have the texture of mozzarella cheese!
It’s not even that weird, either. I certainly thought it would be more strange. They’re soft and light and have a ‘stretchiness’ that is unlike most other gummy sweets I’ve had, which I suppose is the mozzarella vibe they’re trying to channel with this product. It’s interesting, but because grape flavour isn’t my favourite flavour and I kept thinking about cheese whilst eating it, I’ll give this a 7/10.

We’ve recently added a few new flavours of Kit Kat, but amongst all of them, this one was definitely my favourite. The sweet peach flavour blends perfectly with the light milk chocolate and it even has a slight creaminess to it to reflect the ‘parfait’ part of the equation. There have been other peach and peach-adjacent Kit Kat flavours before, but this is almost certainly the best of its kind. It's a 9/10!

That’s all for this particular snack review session, but there’s plenty more new snacks and kawaii lifestyle goodies for you to discover on our online shop, including lots of tasty snacks I didn’t even have the space to mention. I highly recommend everything I listed here, but don’t take my word for it - find out for yourself! |
