Around this time of year in Japan, strawberry picking is a popular activity! There's many strawberry snacks and strawberry-themed goodies in our shop, which is no surprise considering how it's the best of all fruits (if you ask me, at least). While looking at all the delicious and juicy strawberries, I was inspired to make today's blog all about them! Please enjoy~ |
With many cute characters from Strawberry Shortcake, Sanrio's Strawberry King, and even our very own Strawberry-chan, strawberries are more than just a tasty snack, being seen again and again in all kinds of cute illustrations! Many of our AMUSE friends like Poteusa Loppy and Mameshiba Sankyoudai have had strawberry-themed releases, such as the Mameshibas we have in right now!
I took a moment to find out some more about Strawberry-chan, our resident strawberry mascot. She's meticulous, super sweet, and always makes sure her leaves are styled perfectly. She also has an irrational fear of Strawberry Ramune-kun, which is silly as he wouldn't harm a fly! |

Tochigi prefecture in Japan is famous for its strawberries, yielding more than anywhere else in Japan since 1968! It's become known as The Strawberry Kingdom, and only there can you try Tochihime strawberries - an exclusive variety that's soft, juicy, and sweet. Due to their softness, they're unsuitable for shipping and you can only try them when you visit and pick your own!
Korilakkuma, Rilakkuma's little bear friend, has been appointed the Official Strawberry Ambassador for Tochigi prefecture. From packaging to cute plush series, Korilakkuma works hard to promote strawberries from the area! I'd buy strawberries all the time if they had such a cute little bear on them! When will we get such cute mascots on our fruits here?!

Japan is home to a very special kind of strawberry - white strawberries! There's a few different varieties, all with charming names such as White Jewel, Milky Berry, and Hatsukoi no Kaori (the scent of first love). Larger, juicier, and softer than your usual strawberry, they're generally white with red seeds, but can also have a pale pink or orangey tone.
Not many farms grow these beautiful berries, so if you get the chance to try one, don't hesitate! Once grown only about 10% of the yield are pure white, after which they have to pick out the best of the bunch, making them even rarer (and explaining the high price tag)! Due to their premium and scare nature, just one strawberry could cost £8-9, making a box of these a wonderful gift!
Though not as premium, we recently spotted some white strawberries in a UK supermarket! Who knows, maybe one day we'll have super fancy fruits like square watermelons too! |

We have many strawberry-themed things here at Tofu Cute! One of the BEST snacks we’ve stocked are the Senjaku Assortment hard candies, which are available in Strawberry flavour. Each bag has FIVE different kinds of strawberry flavour inside! 'Early Picked Strawberry' which tastes just like the ripest strawberries, a 'Strawberry Chocolate' flavour~ half is chocolate and the other half strawberry, 'Dark strawberry' a rich and full bodied strawberry flavour, a 'Condensed Milk Strawberry' half is condensed milk and the other half strawberry, and the last flavour is a 'Strawberry Tart' with a wonderfully realistic taste of strawberry and pastry!
Our Strawberry Milk Kit Kats are wonderfully fruity, made with strawberry juice and condensed milk powders, they taste like the real deal. Strawberry Mochi is a classic that everyone should try - we have locals who come to our shop again and again to stock up! We’re also awaiting the delivery of some new snacks in a few weeks, including Meiji Strawberry Apollo, which are delicious strawberry chocolates in a cute cone shape. Please look forward to it!
