Gudetama Chocolate Review!

Egg-cellent Chocolate!
As you may know if you follow us on social media, we've recently stocked a brand new line of delicious Gudetama themed chocolate by UK-based chocolaterie Creighton's, who work hard to produce delicious artisan chocolate in a variety of themes. These new Gudetama chocolates are no exception, and they incorporate some weird and wonderful flavours that truly represent the themes of Gudetama, the beloved Lazy Egg by Sanrio, who I think we can all relate to from time to time.

If you've seen these and you're on the fence about giving them a try, then we've made this taste test & review especially for you! In this blog, we'll give some honest opinions on this brand new line of Gudetama chocolates (spoilers: they're pretty good!) and let you know exactly why you should try these delicious treats.
Sunny Side Up
The first Gudetama themed chocolate we'll be looking at - 'Sunny Side Up' - is the one with the most universal appeal - there's something particularly exquisite about this chocolate bar, as the Yuzu Citrus (an Asian citrus fruit which is somewhere between a lemon and an orange) flavour compliments the rich dark chocolate perfectly. The tart zest of the yuzu matches the bitter dark chocolate, and you get a taste that is truly unique.

The texture of the chocolate is firm and dense, but it melts very quickly in the mouth. A lot of people in the Team Tofu office rate this Gudetama chocolate as their favourite, and it's easy to see why - it's got a unique flavour that you don't normally get even with the most obscure chocolates, and it's also very high quality. The packaging even has a cute pattern of Gudetama in his classic form making a variety of poses, so if you're a fan of Gudetama and chocolate, this one's a good choice all round!
You Crack Me Up
This cleverly named 'You Crack Me Up' Chocolate is a little more adventurous than 'Sunny Side Up' perhaps, as it's got an active ingredient of popping candy, which will cause quite a sensation in your mouth! The tasty milk chocolate bar is punctuated with tiny pieces of fizzy popping candy, which pop around your mouth like they've having a party, which also makes a fun sound! Despite the premise, the chocolate never really feels like it's just a gimmick, as the popping sensation adds some excellent flavour and texture to the smooth milk chocolate.

Whether you like this one or not will depend on if you like popping candy or not - if it's not your thing, then perhaps try one of the others - but if you're looking to experience something new, give this one a try!
Five More Minutes...
Speaking of 'new experiences', you've definitely never had a chocolate quite like 'Five More Minutes' before, which is a milk chocolate bar that incorporates bacon flavouring & toast crumbs. Yes, you read that correctly.

You could describe this chocolate in many ways. You could say that it's 'bold' or 'ambitious', but I would also suggest that it is 'divisive' - some people love this chocolate, and some don't at all! It's definitely not bad - the chocolate achieves what it sets out to, and provides a strong bacon aftertaste in contrast to the chocolate. It's very odd! But if you like bacon, or just want to see what such a bizarre flavour combo would taste like, this is the one for you. This chocolate is also vegetarian despite its flavour! Gudetama is known for wearing a bacon blanket to keep himself warm, which is represented on the packaging of this chocolate, so it's also on point with the Gudetama theme.
I'll do it later
There's also two more Gudetama chocolates in standard chocolate types - there's a small milk chocolate bar called I'll Do It Later, which is classic milk chocolate packaged in an adorable Gudetama box. It's delicious, simple and would make an excellent gift!

The other classic chocolate is the Gudetama shaped white chocolate 'egg', which is the only one of these chocolates that actually looks like Gudetama himself. Similar to the 'I'll Do It Later' chocolate, this delicious white chocolate egg by Creighton's would make a great gift for a fan of Gudetama, even if they're not all that into chocolate. It's easy to recommend both of these treats!
What do you think?
We're really impressed by the range of Gudetama chocolates by Creighton's - but what do you think of them? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram! For more Gudetama stuff, you can check out our selection of re-ment and other things, or visit our friends at ARTBOX for an even wider selection!
